"Darling - I had a hectic day in London - no one in the house but Leith Ross & Miss Way - the two least desirable of our staff - dust sheets in every room... Cys & I started the next morning - he very white & hollow-eyed after a night journey... We got to Interlaken next morning - which we found terribly damp & 'mild' - the grass sticking up blackly through the snow like an unshaved cheek."
