Strength as unbending as his is very frightening – one feels it will never give until it is broken – I have felt this about Father for years – that if ever his health were to give way it wld. be quite suddenly & quite irrevocably. That's why I was frozen with terror about him on Wed. when for the first time in his life he admitted to feeling ill."
