Of course I enjoyed Alderley... but from my point of view it is rather tantalising to be there when you are doubling the parts of Martha & Granville Barker.

Asquith writes from Lympne about his recent visit to Alderley, Cys's illness, and a secret meeting with Carson.

Mentioned:Cys Asquith • Granville Barker • Edwin Montagu • Sir Edward Carson

"My dearest Violet – I got your letter describing your journey to Khartoum & your first experiences of life at the Palace there. Then on Monday last I received your telegram about Cys’s illness, and for two or three days was rather anxious. The D has been very good in telegraphing, and I gather that there were no serious complications... Venetia & Olive left at midnight on Thursday for Chamonix, Bongie joining them in London. Oc is going off to-day to Mürren... Best love & every wish for '14"
