HIS DAYReceiving a letter from Winston Churchill proposing a visit to Dunkirk and Sir John French's headquarters to discuss the 'flank movement'. Writing to Churchill to disapprove of the visit unless Lord Kitchener was first consulted and gave his approval. Discussing the friction between Churchill and Kitchener with Venetia Stanley (Asquith later noted he wrote to Churchill 'as we agreed' adding a suggestion she had made regarding concerting naval and military action)

HER DAYAlmost certainly in London, beginning or preparing for her probationer-nursing work (or imminent start) at the London Hospital, Whitechapel (“that horrible East-end”).. Keeping up her usual private correspondence with Asquith from London; she had been seeing him socially in London shortly before (he refers to what she wore “last night” in a letter dated 1914-12-18).
