Roger Casement was arrested at Banna Strand, County Kerry, for attempting to land arms for Irish Volunteers.. The Royal Navy intercepted and scuttled the German-controlled steamer SS Libau, which was attempting to deliver weapons for the Easter Rising.

"Excellent joke by the housemaid. At 7.30 in the morning Mamma told her to go and tell Frances there was no early celebration of Holy Communion. Instead of going to Frances, she went to Venetia! Mr Wu is a great success here... We had another parliament in Mamma's sitting room..."
