British forces at the Battle of Delville Wood dug in at the west end, ending the battle having held onto key positions gained in the opening.. The Bulgarian Third Army engaged Romanian forces at the Battle of Bazargic in Southern Dobruja.. British troops attempted to force attacks on trenches near Combles at the Battle of Guillemont, but were delayed by German defenses.
